Visit Halkidiki to enjoy the unique route of its wine roads, its famous wineries, its vast vineyards! Taste your favorite wines in the place where they are produced, accompanying your wine tours with tasting of local recipes from high quality local products. The Halkidiki Wine Roads – one of the many routes of the Wine Roads of Northern Greece – includes vineyards and wineries in the west of the prefecture, focusing on the region of Kallikrateia, Sithonia, Mount Athos (on the northern slopes of Mount Holomonta), Arnaia and Marathousa, as well as the areas of Triglia and Panagia.

Start your route from the settlement of Agios Pavlos, an area covered with vineyards. Continuing your tour, do not miss to visit the cave of Petraloni, where the “Archanthropus”, the skeleton of the oldest man in Europe, was discovered. Continue to the western side of Sithonia, where the verdant slopes of Melito descend to meet the crystal clear waters of Toroneos Gulf. Note that the “Slopes of Melito” vineyard is one of the largest in Europe and is a model of organic viticulture. Go uphill in mountainous Halkidiki, in one of the most picturesque villages of mountainous Halkidiki, Arnaia, to reach Mount Athos, in Chromitsa.

The Halkidiki vineyard produces the PGE Halkidiki (Local Wine of Halkidiki) wines, while the Sithonia vineyard in particular produces the PDO (OPAP) Plagies Melitona and PGE Sithonia (Local Wine of Sithonia) wines, and the Mount Athos vineyard produces the PGE Athos Oros wines (Agioreitikos Local Wine).

The excellent climatic conditions allow fine Greek varieties such as Assyrtiko, Athiri, Malagouzia and Roditis to “give” high quality white wines. Among the red ones, the famous Greek Limnion, mentioned in the writings of Aristotle, undoubtedly stands out.
