Our summer villa Kalliopi Potidea Halkidiki is located in the area of Nea Potidea in Halkidiki – and this is a beautiful place to explore! Apart from the stunning coastline and nature, there are many historical places to visit.
In Halkidiki, wherever you turn to look, history is present and culture has left its mark. Inhabited as early as 4,000 BC. and protagonist in Greek mythology, is a diverse mosaic, where the archaeological findings, the ruins of cities from the 5th BC. century, its Byzantine monuments and its traditional settlements, each one plays its role in its uniqueness.
Travel to Halkidiki, going back in time. Visit the sanctuary of Ammon Zeus in Kallithea, where Dionysus, Ammon Zeus and Asclepius were worshipped. Get to know Ancient Olynthos, which was already inhabited since the Neolithic era.
Feel the aura of the great ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle in his birthplace, Ancient Stageira and admire its archaic walls, its fortifications, its Agora and its Acropolis. Walk through the Necropolis of Akanthou, where more than 1,300 graves have so far been recorded, in a cemetery that functioned from the Archaic period to Roman times and probably intermittently until the 17th BC. century.
Visit the Archaeological Museum of Polygyros, where Halkidiki from the Bronze Age to the Roman period comes alive again through impressive finds. Discover the local traditions in the Folklore Museums of Afitou and Arnaia, which capture the daily life of the locals in the past, through tools, items of daily use, and even the decoration of their houses.
Get lost in the narrow streets of the traditional and historical settlements of Afitos (or Athitos), Arnaia, Parthenon and Old Nikiti, exploring their special architecture, their cobblestones and their old churches. Cross the threshold of the unique beauty of the church of Agios Stefanos in Arnaia, a three-aisled basilica that was built in 1812, burned down twice and through its ashes revealed three more historical periods, which can be admired through the glass floor
